Construction of School for Dalit community in Robertsganj completed

During the stay of Helma Ritscher, Chairwoman of the Indo-German society Remscheid in
Varanasi, she got to visit the village of Raup in Sonbadrha district, whose community-
members belong to the tribal backward caste of Ghasias. Helma Ritscher recognised their
humble situation and that a school in
this community is urgently needed. In
collaboration with PVCHR (People’s
Vigilance Committee of Human
Rights) the project was planned and
funding was provided by the German
Ministry for generations, family,
women and integration of the federal
land of North-Rhine-Westfalia via
InWent gGmbh and Indo German Society Remscheid.
Constructions, under the supervision of PVCHR, have been completed in October 2008. The
building consists of four rooms – three big hall rooms to be used as classrom and one office
room. The new building will be used for school education, as a community center and for pre-
school childcare including the ICDS nutrition program. The building will now devolve to the
ownership of the Ghasia community
and the school shall be run by
government teachers. The request to
the government to place teachers in
Raup village has already been
submitted. Regular lessons will be
started in April.
In front of the school some playing
facilities for the children have been
built, wich have been financed by Parul Sharma from Sweden. Located next to them, there’s a
monument for those 18 children who had died from malnutrition in the years 2003 and 2004.
They shall never be forgotten.
